Harvey B. Campbell, Jr.

As the founding member of Alabama Consumer Law Group LLC., Harvey B. Campbell, Jr. has been an advocate for consumer rights for 40 years.  After graduating from The University of Alabama in 1973, Mr. Campbell attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He graduated in May of 1977.  He has been a member of the Alabama State Bar since September 1977 and a member of the Federal Bar for the Northern District of Alabama since December 1977. Mr. Campbell is a Proctor of Admiralty, as well, and handles cases that require the special laws of the waterways and seas. 

Mr. Campbell was a founding member of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Alabama State Bar.  He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.  For 40 years, his main practice areas have been litigation, arbitration, consumer rights and bankruptcy law.  He has helped many who have been physically and/or economically injured by large corporations including banks and insurance companies.   In doing so, he has won monetary judgments in the millions.   

While at the University of Alabama Mr. Campbell was employed by the University of Alabama as an archaeologist and worked across the State of Alabama assisting in gathering artifacts to aid in the drafting of environmental impact statements in an effort protect aboriginal archaeological sites.  He still pursues his passion for artifacts and the environment by spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren at the banks of the Talladega Creek that runs through the family farm. 

Megan C. Carpenter

Megan C. Carpenter has been a member of the Alabama State Bar for eight years and has been practicing in Talladega, Alabama since spring of 2008.  She received her Juris Doctor from Birmingham School of Law.  Her main areas of practice include representing individuals in Bankruptcy, as well as Social Security/Disability applications and appeals.   In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of Alabama, she is also admitted in the United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama and the United States District Court, Middle District of Alabama.  Before law school, she received her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama where she studied Advertising, Marketing and English.  She volunteers for several local non-profits and enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children. 

J. Gabriel Carpenter

J. Gabriel “Gabe” Carpenter has been practicing in Talladega since the fall of 2010. His practice focuses on civil litigation in the state and federal courts, particularly matters involving violations of consumer protection laws such as the Truth in Lending Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  In addition, he is primarily responsible for the firm’s wills and estates practice.

A native of Georgiana, Alabama, Gabe moved to Talladega in 2005 to write for the local newspaper. He later enrolled in the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University where he received his law degree in 2009. During law school, Gabe served as an editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. He also holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law and a journalism degree from Auburn University.

In his spare time, Gabe enjoys reading, music, woodworking and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Mary Ruth C. Smitherman

Attorney Mary Ruth C. Smitherman is an associate attorney at Alabama Consumer Law Group, LLC. Mary Ruth graduated from Birmingham School of Law in May 2016 and began working at Campbell & Campbell, P.C. soon after. Mrs. Smitherman is originally from Talladega and is better known by “Molly”.

Mary Ruth’s practice is in consumer law. She represents and consults with clients on matters involving mortgages, automobile purchases, product warranties, debt collectors, credit reporting errors, deceptive trade practices, and arbitration litigation to name a few.
