Formerly Campbell & Campbell Law Firm, Alabama Consumer Law Group, LLC is a powerhouse law firm in Talladega, Alabama, founded by lawyers Buddy and Sandy Campbell, that combines over 50 years of legal experience across several law areas. Harvey Campbell, Alabama Consumer Law Group, Talladega AL

Harvey “Buddy” B. Campbell, Jr.

As the founding member of Alabama Consumer Law Group, LLC, Harvey B. Campbell, Jr. has been an advocate for consumer rights for over 40 years. After graduating from the University of Alabama in 1973, Mr. Campbell attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He graduated in May of 1977. He has been a member of the Alabama State Bar since September 1977 and a member of the Federal Bar for the Northern District of Alabama since December 1977. Mr. Campbell is a Proctor of Admiralty and handles cases that require the special laws of the waterways and seas.

Mr. Campbell was a founding member of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Alabama State Bar. He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. For 40 years, his main practice areas have been litigation, arbitration, consumer rights, and bankruptcy law. He has helped many who have been physically and/or economically injured by large corporations including banks and insurance companies. In doing so, he has won monetary judgments in the millions.

While at the University of Alabama, Mr. Campbell was employed by the university as an archaeologist and worked across the State of Alabama helping to gather artifacts. He also aided in the drafting of environmental impact statements in an effort to protect aboriginal archaeological sites. He still pursues his passion for artifacts and the environment. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren at the banks of the Talladega Creek, which runs through the family farm.

Megan Carpenter, Alabama Consumer Law Group, Talladega AL

Megan C. Carpenter

Megan C. Carpenter has been a member of the Alabama State Bar for eight years and has been practicing in Talladega, AL, since the spring of 2008. She received her Juris Doctor from Birmingham School of Law. Her main areas of practice include bankruptcy and social security/disability applications and appeals. Megan is admitted to practice in the State of Alabama, the United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Before law school, she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama where she studied advertising, marketing, and English. She volunteers for several local non-profits and enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children.

Born and raised in Goodwater, AL, Shavon attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, where she majored in Criminal Justice, specializing in juvenile justice. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in May of 2000. After a little urging by one of her professors, Shavon decided to attend the University of Alabama School of Law in 2000. She received her Juris Doctorate from Alabama in 2003 and passed the Alabama State Bar that same year. Fresh out of law school, Shavon practiced in the area of criminal law in Tuscaloosa, AL, with John A. Bivens Law Office for over a year. Desiring to be closer to home, she moved back in 2004 and began practicing with Campbell and Campbell, P.C.

Her field of practice is primarily bankruptcy and consumer rights. She is admitted to the United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. While still involved with programs in her hometown, Shavon enjoys spending time with her husband and their two sons.

Gabriel Carpenter, Alabama Consumer Law Group, Talladega AL

J. Gabriel “Gabe” Carpenter

J. Gabriel “Gabe” Carpenter has been practicing in Talladega, AL, since the fall of 2010. His practice focuses on civil litigation in state and federal courts. He focuses on violations of consumer protection laws, such as the Truth in Lending Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

A native of Georgiana, AL, Gabe moved to Talladega in 2005 to write for the local newspaper. He later enrolled in the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he received his law degree in 2009. During law school, Gabe served as an editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. He also holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law, as well as a Journalism degree from Auburn University.

In his spare time, Gabe enjoys reading, music, woodworking, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Mary Ruth C. Smitherman, Alabama Consumer Law Group, Talladega AL

Mary Ruth C. Smitherman

Mary Ruth C. Smitherman is an associate attorney with Alabama Consumer Law Group, LLC. Mary Ruth graduated from Birmingham School of Law in May 2016 and began working at Campbell & Campbell, P.C., soon after. Mrs. Smitherman is originally from Talladega, AL, and is better known as “Molly.”

Mary Ruth’s practice is in consumer law. She represents and consults with clients on matters involving mortgages, automobile purchases, product warranties, debt collectors, credit reporting errors, deceptive trade practices, and arbitration litigation - to name a few.
